Shakespeare’s Richard the Third
By: Declan
We had been meaning to post this from last year. Declan was a Year 6 student who studied Shakespeare’s Richard the Third as his second introduction to Shakespeare at Rise.
Declan wrote an excellent adaptation of the scene where Richard plots the arrest of his older brother George. The link to contemporary politics had us laughing aloud.
ENTER HARRIS, SOLUS
HARRIS
Now is the time of our very worst fears,
made by the votes that hath gone,
now our hallways are full of gloom,
now politics hath smoothed it’s crippled skin;
but now, instead of ranting on about the past that was long gone,
thy lamest Biden shall not be still ruling this world,
for the past few months thou still hath got,
thy still is cheating and unfinish’d,
for the time I can still be here,
schemes I have are always ‘ere,
to set this demented leader of ours,
in the deadly hate of others where if one is true and just,
this Biden shall not see sun nor moon again.
ENTER BIDEN, ACCOMPANIED BY GUARDS
HARRIS
President, good day,
what speaks of these armed guards,
laid upon thy grace?
BIDEN
My advisors,
tendering my safety,
speak nothing of guards,
but accompany me to the study.
HARRIS
For what is thy matter?
BIDEN
Because my party, once in power,
now sees me as a betrayer and liar.
HARRIS
Alas, my leader, this is not on you,
your people have just turned against,
or they hath some new intent,
but now you on the way to the study,
might be the only place you get peace.
But what is bothering you?
Why do you have advisors?
BIDEN
I have noticed that, thus this change,
for the people who want a say have read the tabloids,
the drunken prophecies and now after the games,
they dared to say, my name starts with J and B,
and these demented oracles, whom one I speak of,
has told thee, that when he looks ahead,
he sees nothing on the road for the future of the nation.
These I learnt, for a few weeks now,
but we are now powerless, the next era has come.
HARRIS
Goodbye Biden, we shall meet soon,
farewell and I will have a word with the public,
your quiet will be for long, but meanwhile I look onto this,
have some patience.
BIDEN
I must go now, the rants are near,
and the shouts are pouring in through the window,
but I shall see you soon; I really must go now, I need my time.
EXIT BIDEN AND ADVISORS, AND HARRIS.
